Each Tues & Thurs: Aug 6 - 29, 2024 @ 7:15 pm Eastern

Take note of timezone: 4:15 pm PST/6:15 pm CST/7:15 pm EST :: Every class recorded for folks who must come late or miss classes. Most classes last approximately 2 hours.

Full schedule: Aug 6 - Aug 8 - Aug 13 - Aug 15 - Aug 20 - Aug 22 - Aug 27 - Aug 29

$385 (with sliding scale* as low as $225) per registered pair of class attendants (1 person + 1 optional support person or partner). Poly families or groups of 3+ adults, register for additional $85 per additional person.

If any of this is cost prohibitive contact Ash at embodiedbirth@gmail.com.

This interactive series is the Embodied Birth Class childbirth preparation curriculum specifically for:

  • Transgender, nonbinary, GNC, and other queers who are pregnant or trying to conceive (TTC) or partnered/familied with someone pregnant or TTC

  • Support people or pregnant partners of queers, and/or queer support folks

  • Queer birth workers such as doulas and midwives furthering their training for working with Q/T clients & families

This is an intimate community shared among queer and trans folks, and it’s hard to say goodbye! Occasional reunion meetups will be scheduled for past participants to reconnect, perhaps with babies in arms.

Topics specific to trans/queer folks will be discussed throughout and a closed (safer) QT space will be shared amongst participants.

  • (Note: The optional support person does not have to identify as queer, nor does the pregnant person, as long as there is at least one queer/trans participant registering)

REGISTER

Topics additional to standard birth classes in this Q/T class include:

  • Chestfeeding/bodyfeeding

  • Inducing lactation in non-bio parents/guardians

  • Advocating for self and birth plans as a queer person/family and in general

  • Trauma and body gender dysphoria in pregnancy/birth/postpartum

  • Queering parenting and queer divisions of labor

  • Hormone replacement therapy in the context of birth

  • Somatic grounding

  • Raising children without gender/sexuality expectations and managing cultural engendering

  • Queer parent community and relationship

*A sliding scale has been added to this class! Rather than increase the price for all attendants for the additional content that I feel is especially important for queer birthers, including somatic work, interaction, and many queer specific topics, I am asking those who can pay higher on the scale to please do so. Thank you for this kind of collaborative work that enables more queer/marginalized folks to receive important tools to live and birth well in this challenging modern context!

ACCESSIBILITY: This group class is taught live in English with live-automated captioning on Zoom. It is very content dense and can be emotionally heavy, including open dialogue about significant fears that occasionally involve reference to participant’s traumatic experiences. Participants may take breaks or miss class according to their physical/emotional/schedule needs and the class is fully recorded for only the participants to watch/rewatch at their own pace. Please consider that this class may not be best for you if 1.5 hours each class of fast-paced, information dense, sometimes emotional content may be overwhelming or overstimulating and if using the videos more than the live class still may not make it accessible for you.

It is important that this class is financially accessible to those who need it, so please contact Ash if you have concerns regarding pricing. Payment plans available upon request.

Email embodiedbirthclass@gmail.com about pay-what-you-can rates for transwomen and Black, Brown and Indigenous folks: including indigenous North Americans/First Nations' people, indigenous Palestinians and others in diaspora from their ancestral land, and Black and Brown folks.

This class fully embraces, uplifts, and seeks to empower people IN their myriad identities. Please see home page regarding identities prior to registering to be sure this class is a fit for you.

Power Dynamics in Parenting (Queering Parenting) Workshop

REGISTER HERE

December 13, 2022 @ 2-4 pm EST

Cost: $60 (abundant financial options if cost prohibitive)

On Zoom. Class will be recorded and sent to all participants.

Power Dynamics in Parenting

Or, Queering Parenting for Parents of All Genders:

Breaking down the systems of oppression we were told are embedded into parenting such that our children can be more securely attached & emotionally well.

Power is a basic human need, but in our society parents have a profound degree of power over children, and when this is not acknowledged and used to empower their children, kids are left to reclaim their power back by climbing any ladders of hierarchy they can find- bullying, disobedience, “good grades”, fame, fortune, physical strength, knowledge, competitiveness, aggression, and more.

When our kids are trapped on the underside of power due to power dynamics parents are ignorant to, kids have to spend their energy seeking power (a human need) rather than following their curiosities and pursuing what brings joy.

You know something feels really wrong with parenting tactics that just power-over children to get them to do what you want.

What research on power has taught us is that when power dynamics are not named, they are by default used & abused to the benefit of those that hold the power. Parenting has an inherent power differential between guardians and children.

With awareness and specific intentional practices, parents can actually use their power to protect connection between themselves and their kids, prevent traumatic childhood experiences and rhythms, and increase children’s capacity for developing emotional wellbeing and secure attachment to others across their entire lives.

As a trans nonbinary queer Palestinian midwife and parent, I am and have been on many sides of power dynamics and have been teaching a primer on this topic in my queer/trans childbirth education classes the past 3 years. In every cohort participants ask me to teach a more thorough parenting class on the topic, and so, by request, here is the collection of research and experience I offer on parenting through the lens of Power. A queerer parenting relevant to all parents, for more wildly curious, connected, contented children.

Queer/Trans Birth Class: June Weeknights

REGISTER

6 Part Weeknight Class (12 hours total)

Each Monday & Wednesday June 13 - June 29, 2022 from 7-9 pm EST

Class dates: June 13, 15, 20, 22, 27, 29

$255-$310 (sliding scale*) per registered pair of class attendants (1 person + 1 optional support person or partner).

This interactive series is the Embodied Birth Class childbirth preparation curriculum specifically for:

  • Transgender, nonbinary, GNC, and other queers who are pregnant or trying to conceive (TTC) or partnered/familied with someone pregnant or TTC

  • Support people or pregnant partners of the queer/trans individuals listed above

  • Queer birth workers furthering their learning of working with QT clients/families

This is an intimate community shared among queer and trans folks, and it’s often really hard to say goodbye! Occasional reunion meetups will be scheduled for past participants to reconnect, perhaps with babies in arms.

Topics specific to trans/queer folks will be discussed throughout and a closed (safer) QT space will be shared amongst participants.

  • (Note: The optional support person/partner attendant is not required to identify as trans/queer, and the trans/queer individual does not have to be the pregnant or TTC individual, but may be the support person/partner attendant instead)

REGISTER

Topics additional in this Q/T class include, but are not limited to:

  • Chestfeeding/bodyfeeding

  • Inducing lactation in non-bio parents/guardians

  • Advocating for self and birth plans in general and as a queer person/family

  • Trauma and body gender dysphoria in pregnancy/birth/postpartum

  • Queering parenting and queer divisions of labor

  • Hormone replacement therapy in the context of birth

  • Somatic exercise

This group class is taught live in English with live-automated captioning on Zoom AND will be fully ASL interpreted. This class size will be larger in order to fully compensate ASL interpreters, but quality will be maintained!

It is important that this class is accessible to those who need it, so please contact Ash if you have concerns regarding pricing.

This class fully embraces, uplifts, and seeks to empower IN their myriad identities. Please see home page regarding identities prior to registering to be sure this class is a fit for you.
